2012 in review & a sneak peek at what 2013 has in store..!

First and foremost, let me start by wishing you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR and thank you, readers, for your continued support in my lingerie pursuits!

2012 has been such an exciting year for me personally (I got married!) and as a blogger there have been so many great events and launches that it is hard to pick my highlights! Never-the-less, here is a little overview of my blog over the past year...

2012 kicked off with my first guest blog "What I look for from a lingerie boutique" for Lingerie Buyer trade magazine, followed by meeting the fabulous Gok Wan at the Simply Yours/Simply Be S/S12 press event, the Swimwear 365 launch with TOWIE's Sam Faiers, the London Fashion Week 'indie' lingerie designers catwalk show, various lingerie press days (including the hugely popular Eveden A/W12 and Panache A/W12 press events)..and much more!

I was also thrilled to win Jonathan Aston's 2012 blogger 'style off' competition and this has given me the confidence to introduce more clothing, nightwear and shapewear posts on my blog. (Take a look at my lingerie-inspired Halloween look'Work fashion' style file, luxury highstreet nightwear review and Charnos corselette shapewear review) I have also started to use a few pictures of myself wearing garments that I review to hopefully give an even better idea of how things look in the flesh!

2012 has been a great year for lingerie reviews - both of brands that many of us know and love, as well as of some emerging and independent designers that cater particularly to the fuller bust market. Some of my favourite lingerie discoveries over the past year include the 'Parfait' by Affinitas fuller bust line, tattoo-inspired creations of Tatu Couture, new C-J cup lingerie brand, Alegro, Mimi Holliday's luxurious bras and highly acclaimed polish lingerie brand, Ewa Michalak!

2012 has indeed been a busy year and 2013 undoubtedly has some great surprises in store for you, lingerie fans! I am particularly looking forward to...

*Freya bringing out their longline bras in a 28 back for S/S13 - it looks like my continual badgering at press events has paid off! ;)

(Pictured below L-R 'Just Flew In' and 'Patsy' - sizes 32-38C and 28-38 D-G.)

* Freya's first ever shapewear styles and a Deco multiway bra..I can't wait! (Sizes 32-38 B,C & 28-38 D-G)

* Cleo by Panache's swimwear debut this Spring/Summer (cue a colour explosion of eye-catching summery brights, bold patterns and oh-so-cute details..starting from a 28 back (D-J cups):

* Curvy Kate's first ever babydoll ('Lola') which goes up to a K cup - it really fills a gap in the fuller bust market for sexy 'boudoir lingerie' and A/W13 cannot come around quick enough!

* Claudette's introduction of 28 backs to their 'Dessous' range - after months of lusting, I can't wait to get my mitts on these bright neon bras in my size!

* Miss Mandalay's high fashion, high impact swimwear for 2013 - fuller busted ladies are in for a treat with the new collections (all up to a GG and one range up to an H, with 28 backs in many styles). The 'Los Angeles' bikini (below, right) is bang on trend with its sexy cut-out details - it has my heart doing somersaults already!

* Even more Parfait by Affinitas longline bras for me to hanker after! Here is the ineffably stylish 'Danielle' bra in 'imperial purple' for A/W13..it must be love!

This 2013, I hope to bring you all even more exciting lingerie, swimwear and fashion related pictures, previews, news and reviews. Blogging is in many ways about self-exploration and I am always striving to bring even more excitement and new ideas to the table when it comes to what I write about. I am pleased to say that I have a few new things in the pipeline for you all..one of my big aims is to bring in some thought-provoking content about the lingerie industry, bra fitting and body image, so keep your eyes peeled!

As always, if you have any suggestions regarding what you are interested in seeing on my blog, I'd love to hear from you - this blog exists to help people in their quest for well-fitting, gorgeous lingerie, so do get in touch here..and don't forget to join me on Facebook and Twitter for daily lingerie updates or just a general natter!

10 New Year Lingerie Resolutions that are easy to keep!

$

With the start of every new year, the question "have you made any new year's resolutions?" is an inescapable topic of conversation. By mid-January, those of us that have made resolutions are either gloating with pride about the success of a new health kick or conversely feeling guilty about demolishing those Xmas choccies that were going to be given away..!

Whilst not everyone makes new year resolutions, this year (aside from setting myself some achievable personal goals), I have devised some resolutions that are much more fun to keep! No fad diets, no over-the-top life overhauls and (almost) no guilt...

Yes, I can only be talking about lingerie resolutions and here are my top 10 for 2013...

1. Reorganise my intimates collection and donate to charity/ sell any pieces that do not fit  - I confess that I am quite the lingerie hoarder, so a Spring clean will definitely do me good.. besides, there is no point holding on to bras that do not fit just because they are pretty and I can't bear to part with them! With so many new lingerie collections coming out in 2013 (get a sneak peek here), there is no way that I will be short of pretty lingerie to fall in love with!

(Why not clear out your underwear drawers and donate to charity whilst you're at it? Find out about 'Bra Banks' and help to raise money for research into Breast Cancer)

2. Stop saving my favourite underwear for 'special occasions' - I think it's easy to fall into the rut of just wearing a small selection of your lingerie for everyday wear (everyone has 'go-to' bras for comfort and great shape..in my case, my Freya 'Deco' bras). If you find yourself 'saving' your lingerie luxuries for 'special occasions' like me, then remember the great feeling that you get when you wear gorgeous lingerie and start wearing it more often - it could be just the confidence boost that you need! There is certainly something wonderful about knowing that you're wearing beautiful lingerie underneath your work clothes..

(Some of my hoarded favourites that don't get enough wear!)

3. Be even more picky about the lingerie that I buy - I adore lingerie and love nothing more than a new set of lingerie as a 'pick-me-up', but when choosing whether or not to keep something, I vow to ask myself:  Does it give me the right support? Is it comfortable? Does it give a great shape? Is it the right fit and style for my body and needs? Do I have something like it? Am I really in love with it or is it a lingerie infatuation?

Figleaves Boudoir 'Entice' bralet - very enticing indeed, but not designed for my bust size!

4. Experiment with new brands and styles - It is easy to overlook new names and places, especially when you know that certain brands work well for you and you are accustomed to buying from particular retailers. I want to continue to look out for exciting new emerging brands that have so much to offer. I also want to keep an open mind towards different bra styles - I may be a plunge bra aficionado, but who knows, maybe that soft cup/ unpadded bra will be my new BBF (bra best friend)!

(Could the Spring/Summer13 Cleo by Panache 'Marcie' unpadded bra be my new BBF?)

5. Buy more from Independents - I think it's really important to support independent designers and non-'mainstream' brands - the benefits include finding some really original and quirky pieces that aren't found on the highstreet and the money that you pay is reflected by the craftmanship that goes into the design and production of the garment.

6. Become slightly more lax about handwashing - Yes, you heard right! Whilst many people are guilty of putting their lingerie in the washing machine, I actually handwash EVERYTHING that has a handwash label..or just if something looks a bit dainty! Sorting through my underwear drawers, I have overlooked that there are quite a few undergarments that are actually machine washable! It is easy to assume that anything lacey and delicate looking means handwash only, but this is not always the case, so check your labels!

(Picture via: http://aprivateroom-blog.blogspot.co.uk/)

7. Buy what fits regardless of the size on the label - Vanity sizing is all around us, but do you know what? A little label doesn't dictate anything about your body or you as a person. If you try on a pretty pair of knickers but they are too small in your usual size, try the size up or the size after that. Look at how the garment fits you and only buy what looks flattering. Besides, if you buy something and feel funny about the size on the label, just cut it out! Problem solved.

9. Wear your curves with pride - When you have a larger bust size, the tendency (certainly for me, sometimes) is to cover up and be slightly conservative with regard to showing cleavage. Whilst I'm not saying that it is a good idea to go to work in a low cut boob-baring dress (that's just not appropriate!), I'd love to start showing off a bit more cleavage. Be proud of your boobs and be confident in your curves - body confidence is sexy in every shape and size!

(Being a bit more daring with my outfit choice on my birthday..!)

10. Keep on preaching great bra fit to anyone who will listen - Most of my regular blog readers will be aware of the importance of a well-fitting bra, but I'd love to push my blog message out to even more people this year (sharing is caring!). I am also keen to get more friends and family in to the right bra! The bra revolution shall continue at full throttle..

What do you make of my new year resolutions? Will you be following any of them?

Wolford's new Regent Street boutique and S/S13 collections reviewed

Founded in 1949, Austrian premium brand, Wolford, boasts a rich history alongside an impressive range of products; from Legwear to Ready-to-wear to Lingerie, Swimwear and Accessories. Wolford's first products were tights, followed by an expansion into bodywear in 1992. Thanks to the high quality, stylish designs of Wolford garments, both legwear and bodywear (particularly tights and seamless bodies) remain extremely popular to this day and are integral to Wolford's collections.

Wolford has grown to become an iconic and internationally recognised label with highly sought after luxury products that are loved by celebrities such as Kate Moss, Rihanna, Jessie J, Keira Knightley and Cheryl Cole, amongst others. Wolford is special in its balance of creativity and innovation with a timeless classicism that withstands seasonal trend shifts. That said, Wolford is conscious of the latest trends, choosing to give a subtle nod to them, whilst keeping its classic shapes (which flatter and enhance the female silhouette.)

I was lucky enough to be invited to Wolford's Westfield boutique a little while ago to hear the lovely  Muireann Carey-Campbell of Bangs and a Bun give a talk about Wolford's A/W12 collections; 1950's meets rock chick with a splash of surrealist 'trompe l'oeil'!

(Check out the the use of mesh panels, stud detailing, rose print, dogtooth and eyecatching colours set against nude and black.)

After an evening of serious lusting over the 'bondage trompe l'oeil' 'legcessories' and bodysuits in particular, I developed a real crush on Wolford's sophisticated but edgy collections!

Not long after, Wolford held a launch party for its new Regent Street Boutique, so I was able to get a preview of the boutique as well as view some of the S/S13 styles a day before the shop opened to customers..

(Left: Mannequins in the window..but only one is real!) (Right: Inside the boutique)

The Wolford Spring/Summer 2013 ranges are all about glamorous, contemporary layering. The collection takes its inspiration from the 1980's and a 'couture' silhouette, featuring three main themes: 'Holiday Resort', 'Spring' and 'Summer'

The 'Holiday Resort' collection takes its inspiration from Greta Garbo and Rene Gruau's fashion illustrations to create garments with 'look-at-me' prints and spangly ornamental embellishments, such as crystals and metal stud sequins. A touch of couture is added through the use of puffed sleeves, ruching and jewellery-inspired motifs..

How fabulous do the Wolford girls look in these brightly coloured bodycon cheetah print dresses?

I loved this pewter colour bodycon dress with cross-over 'strap' design. The embellished metal cuffs are not part of the dress, so can be added to any outfit for an edgy finishing touch!

Wolford's 'Spring' collection gives off an air of romanticism thanks to its evocative colour palette of soft pinks, white and turquoise, woven through a beautiful selection of lingerie, shapewear, ready-to-wear, legwear and bodywear styles. The focus of the collection lies in floral patterning and lace (both real and printed). Many garments are accented by ornamental button and pearl detailing, miniature floral patterning and ruffles, which add charm and femininity in equal measure..

(Left: Wolford Fleur bra & string, Tulle forming dress) (Right: Fatal bolero, Fleur dress, Mini fleur tights Lucent belt, Bloom gaiter)

(I am absolutely loving this lace print bra (boohoo that it does not come in my size!) and shaping lace forming high waist skirt!)

Last but not least, the 'Summer' collection conjures up a sleek yet casual silhouette with sheer and net fabrics that allow for an alluring peek of bare skin. Graphic patterning, black and white contrasts, 'trompe l'oeil' paint splash effects and striking colours such as hot red, cobalt blue and canary yellow are the order of the day, along with eye-catching printed legwear styles. Wolford's key look is layering a flared mini over a pencil skirt for a new take on the peplum..

(Left: Amour skirt, Fatal sheer dress, Net stripes pullover, Net belt) (Right: Louise dress, Collier tights, Lucent belt, Heavy metal gaiter, Garbo gaiter, Fatal sleeves)

(I love this black outfit - it is full of elegant drama and the play on textures is stunning!)

Wolford's Spring/Summer 2013 collection is a real corker, deftly fusing a mixture of styles from 'retro' to 'modern edgy' to 'boudoir appeal' to 'classic couture'. The focus, as always, is placed on quality garments that deliver equally in style and substance. Having seen the garments up close, I am very impressed with how soft and shaping the garments look - ideal for creating a sophisticated but sexy, feminine silhouette.

I am particularly enamoured by the way that layering has been used in Wolford's Lookbook images to create some seriously fashion-forward outfits that challenge how we traditionally put clothes together. (I wouldn't have thought of creating my own peplum effect by layering a flared skirt over a pencil skirt..and how fabulous is this 'underwear-as-outerwear' inspired look below?)

What do you think of the new collections?

365 days of Freya 'Deco' - A tribute to a best seller!

It is coming up to two years since I had my bra fitting epiphany and bought my first correctly fitting bra (a bra which remains one of my all time favourites to this day!) The bra in question is a staple in my underwear collection and I own it in several different colours and designs. I reach for it time and time again because I know that I can rely on it to be comfortable, supportive and flattering whatever I am wearing.

The bra that I am talking about is the fabulous Freya 'Deco'...

The 'Deco' occupies a very special place in my heart not solely because of the superior support, comfort and shape that it offers, but also because it gives an uplifted and rounded cleavage that is just knock-out!

The joy of the 'Deco' resides in its supreme versatility; the plunging neck line and seamless design works perfectly with pretty much everything in my wardrobe and it is one of my bras of choice to wear under my 'going out' outfits (both the moulded plunge and strapless versions)!

To top it off, Freya continuously updates its 'Deco' collections with new colours, designs and bra styles (e.g. soft cup, multiway, longline, padded half cup bras, shaping slip dresses!) The 'Deco' currently comes in a large range of shades and prints; from your basic 'nude' and black colours to eye-catching shades of red, blue and pink to flirty prints that include everything from sleek stripes to flamboyant flamingos!

There is certainly something for a variety of tastes! Freya's 'Deco' range includes back sizes 28-38 and cup sizes up to a GG, meaning that the 'Deco' is a particularly good option for fuller busted ladies who want a moulded and seamless bra that delivers on support, gives a smooth silhouette and offers a cracking cleavage to boot!

Whilst I often wax lyrical about the 'Deco', I am not alone in my love for this bra.. since its launch in 2009, Freya has sold over a whopping 300,000 'Deco' bras and its popularity doesn't seem to be wavering! To celebrate this iconic and versatile bra, Freya have launched an exciting, new global marketing campaign over on their dedicated microsite:

Not only can you view the current 'Deco' collections, but even more exciting is the fact that there are some amazing prizes up for grabs! Upload a photo of one of your favourite outfits to Freya's 'Style Wall' and select a 'Deco' style that you can wear under it! (You can also enter through Instagram by tagging your photos with #FreyaDeco365)

PRIZES INCLUDE...

-10 sets of Deco lingerie to give away EVERY month!
-Get your style wall photo featured in one of Freya's magazine adverts!
-Win the WHOLE 'Deco' range!
-The grand prize is a £1000 shopping spree with your very own stylist!

Don't forget to get all of your friends and family to comment on your photo when the style wall launches on 31st January 2013!

Also, check out Freya's campaign video which shows just how many ways that you can incorporate the 'Deco' into your own wardrobe:

I am also happy to report that Freya have some really fabulous new designs for 2013, some of which I saw at the Freya SS13 press day:

(L-R: Freya 'Honey' in purple 'Iris', Freya 'Ashlee' in 'Candy', Freya Deco 'Flamingo)

New for this year is the introduction of shapewear to the 'Deco' range, including a multiway bra, longline bra and longline slip dress!

Have you spotted any other new 'Deco' designs in the Freya 365 video? Here is a peek at some of the styles that may well be coming this AW13..

I think I have gone into 'Deco' lust overload..!

What do you think of the new 2013 Deco styles and previews? Will you be entering the Deco 365 competition?

Le Fabuleux Soutien d'Amelie: Miss Mandalay 'Amelie' bra review

'Le Fabuleux Soutien d'Amelie'
(The fabulous support of 'Amelie'*)

Whilst I coo about fuller bust lingerie brands such as Freya and Panache on a regular basis, one of the larger cup brands that I have been more silently enamoured with for a while is Miss Mandalay. Miss Mandalay has catered to the fuller bust market since 2005 and although I have reviewed some of their swimwear back in 2011, the lingerie has not had as much recognition as it deserves on my blog..

Miss Mandalay states one of its points of difference as being its focus on "fashionably different lingerie and swimwear in C-HH cup sizes", catering to busty women who desire "something 'more'..with a great technical fit." Miss Mandalay is very much about the fusion of substance and style - something that is evidenced by the play on fabric textures, prints, colours and detailing from season to season, in both lingerie and swimwear collections.

Miss Mandalay is slightly more pricey in comparison to some of its fuller bust brand rivals, but thanks to the high quality fabrics that are used and the careful construction of the garments, you can be assured that you are paying for comfort, support and great fit with Miss Mandalay.

If you remember back to my pre-Christmas fuller bust lingerie wishlist, you may know that the Miss Mandalay 'Amelie' bra featured as one of my top must-haves! What particularly caught my fancy about the 'Amelie' bra is that it represents a slight departure from the fun, flirty and colour/print orientated designs that I tend to associate with Miss Mandalay.

Miss Mandalay has stripped back the vivid colours, leopard print and ruffles to create something sumptuous, sophisticated, elegant and utterly classy..say "bonjour" to 'Amelie' (Available in sizes 28-38 C-GG):

To my delight, the lovely Red Box Lingerie gave me the opportunity to try this beautiful bra just before Xmas (it arrived quickly and beautifully packaged like a gift, complete with a little card too!)

In line with some of my earlier findings about Miss Mandalay's swimwear sizing and having tried the 'Paige' and 'Paris' bras (which I seem to remember come up tighter than the average 28 back), I opted for a 30FF in the 'Amelie'..

As you can see, the Miss Mandalay 'Amelie' looks even more beautiful in the flesh, with its glamorous mink satin set against ornate black floral stretch lace. The bra fastens with two hooks and eyes and has fully adjustable straps (which is always a bonus!)

'Amelie' is described as being a 'balconette shape' with three-panel support cups. Although this bra appears to resemble more of a fuller cup plunge in the picture (below), the actual shape when worn is a delightful cross-between of balconette and plunge, which is very flattering and supportive..

The design of the 'Amelie' is visually very alluring and there is great attention to detail - who can resist those exquisite little ribbon bows at the centre gore and straps? I love the way that satin, lace and mesh have been employed in an unusual way too; the back band is mesh, whereas the rest of the bra is a mixture of satin (along the gore and sling) and black stretch lace (over the cups).

The support sling is also unconventional as it does not form part of the internal structure of the bra. Instead, the sling has been externalised and decorated with mink satin, which transforms a design and support feature into one that is highly aesthetic!

The sling is, of course, a great design feature for ladies with a fuller bust, helping to lift the breasts up and gently push them forwards. The shape that I get whilst wearing the 'Amelie' is very natural and uplifted and the sling seems to hold everything in place nicely too.

Another great construction element of the 'Amelie' is the design of the lace cups - the cups feature a reinforced lace bottom section and stretch lace along the top of the cups. It is helpful to have the extra mesh lining underneath the lace in the bottom of the cups as the reinforced fabric helps to keep the breasts in place more securely.

On the other hand, the stretch lace at the top of the cups moulds to the individual's breast shape, stopping any cutting in to the breast tissue. The stretch lace is also clever as it allows for any slight fluctuations in breast fullness during the month..

I also got on very well with the shape of the wires of the 'Amelie', which are narrower than those of brands such as Curvy Kate (for example). Additionally, the wires are positioned close together at the centre gore, making this bra very well suited to those with closer set breasts.

I am all in all pleased with the fit of the 'Amelie' although a 28G would have been the ideal fit for me. I need to wear the 30FF on its tightest hooks and the thin straps dig in to my shoulders a little as I need the extra support from a tighter back band. This also suggests to me that the 'Amelie' comes up truer to size than Miss Mandalay's more tight-fitting bras (e.g. 'Paige' and 'Paris). This may be due in part to the materials that have been used in this bra (the back band is made from quite a stretchy mesh material and therefore has more 'give').

I would definitely recommend the Miss Mandalay 'Amelie' bra and it comes as no surprise that it is one of Miss Mandalay's most popular bras! 'Amelie' is delightfully decadent, exquisitely elegant, beautifully boudoir and to top it off, brilliantly constructed to suit DD+ bra sizes!

I often brand myself a moulded bra fanatic but this unpadded bra is enough to make me fall in love over and over again..

(Pair the 'Amelie' bra with the matching thong or knickers..or match the bra with any pair of black lacey briefs - these tie-back knickers are by Collette Dinnigan!)

For those wanting to try the lovely Miss Mandalay 'Amelie' bra, rejoice because it is now on sale for £35 (reduced from £46) at www.redboxlingerie.com!

Lingerie de Paris: Chantal Thomass at BrandAlley

Lingerie should never be underestimated in its power to transform the wearer, making them feel confident, feminine and beautiful. As a lingerie blogger, I find myself seduced by quality garments that are exquisitely designed and well-constructed. My addiction to gorgeous underwear combined with my love for a sale have led me to the discovery of BrandAlley, which has since become one of my ‘go-to’ places for designer lingerie at affordable prices.

BrandAlley recently got in touch with me to let me know about one of their upcoming designer sales for Chantal Thomass lingerie. Chantal Thomass has been dubbed the “Queen of French Lingerie” and her 40 year career has seen her dabble fearlessly in Ready-to-wear fashion, Interior design and of course, Lingerie. Since the beginning, Chantal Thomass has sought to revolutionise lingerie through a strong focus on aesthetics, transforming lingerie into a celebration of femininity and creativity.

(Picture via: http://fashion.telegraph.co.uk)

BrandAlley kindly sent me a sample of Chantal Thomass lingerie to review – a perfect way to whet my appetite before the sale officially launched! I received a stunning set from the ‘Broderie Losanges’ line, which comprised a half-cup bra, garter belt and brief.

The half-cup bra is underwired and unpadded, featuring cups made from nude mesh overlaid by polka-dotted black mesh. The cups also boast a knock-out lattice design with a triangular fringe and a bow adorning the centre gore.

The knickers match the bra beautifully, with an identical diamond design, nude and black mesh overlay and feminine bow motifs. The black dotted mesh on the back of the knickers allows for a cheeky flash of derrière - a look that is saucy yet sophisticated!

The black mesh suspender belt is also a very versatile piece that adds contrast to the lingerie set, whilst nipping you in at the waist. Featuring a minimalist lattice design, thick adjustable suspenders and bows, this garter belt is modern vintage seduction through and through!

Although the bra is not my size, the garter belt and knickers fit beautifully. The stretch-mesh knickers and suspender belt with boning are very comfortable to wear and both contour to your curves without digging in. The nude and black mesh fabric combination is really striking and the attention to detail makes this Chantal Thomass set delightfully luxurious and elegant.

Chantal Thomass lingerie certainly impresses with its timeless, feminine and seductive pieces. If your underwear drawer is crying out for a Spring/Summer update, get ready to feast your eyes on the BrandAlley Chantal Thomass lingerie sale. You won’t be able to resist a slice of Chantal Thomass’ iconic French style..j'adore!

Arabel Lingerie - Forget Me Not knickers and Sugarplum garter review

"Pretty but playful. Naughty but nice." These are definitely dichotomies that I can live by when it comes to lingerie! Although I find myself drawn to the edgy, bondage-inspired designs that have filtered to the forefront of the current lingerie market, on discovering the delicious candy colours, girly frills, bows and delicate lace details of Arabel Lingerie, it was impossible not to develop a sweet tooth for the collection!

Arabel Lingerie was founded in April 2012 by the talented, Sarah Lister. After completing a foundation diploma in Art and Fashion Design at the University of Gloucestershire, Sarah began training in pattern drafting, corsetry and lingerie construction before taking on her long-held ambition to conquer the lingerie world with her whimsical and sugar sweet designs. Sarah advocates that "women of all sizes deserve beautiful lingerie"; an ethos that I wholeheartedly champion!

Arabel Lingerie is all about making the wearer feel special - every garment is lovingly hand made in the UK (to your measurements, if required!), using high quality satin and lace. The Arabel Lingerie collection currently includes knickers, suspenders, garter bets and more recently, a 'camidoll' and soft cup bra! The sugar sweet colours, romantic designs and girly motifs really capture the essence of femininity and playfulness, so I was delighted when Sarah offered me a sample of her pretty lingerie to review.

I chose the 'Forget Me Not' knickers (£18) and 'Sugarplum' garter belt (in black) (£32) and emailed Sarah my measurements to ensure a perfect fit. The lingerie arrived beautifully wrapped up in a compact black box. To my surprise, on undoing the bow, the box unfolded like an origami flower to reveal my new lingerie - a lovely touch indeed!

The lingerie was even prettier in the flesh than on the Arabel Lingerie website and I could not wait to try on my new underwear!

The 'Forget Me Not' knickers are a gorgeous powder blue shade with a contrasting black elastic trim and a black satin bow at the centre. The bluebell shade is not a colour that I have much of in my underwear (or outerwear) collection, but it is a great nod to Spring/Summer pastels. Although pastels can sometimes wash me out, the pale blue of these knickers really compliments my fair complexion.

I also love the 'peek-a-boo' effect of the semi-sheer lace and the floral pattern gives these knickers a slightly vintage edge. The 'pièce de résistance' of these knickers, however, is the delightfully girly tutu frill detail that goes all the way from front to back! The only down-side to the frill is that it can get a bit creased under trousers, but the stretch lace material lends to easy reshaping!

As for the sizing, Sarah has a very handy size guide on her site, which tells you how to find the perfect fit for her garments. Her knicker sizing chart includes standard clothing sizes e.g. 10-12 but it also states a high hip measurement e.g. 34". This was very helpful when picking out my size as I could see which knicker size corresponded to my high hip measurement. It is also helpful for those that are not uniformly 'one clothing size' all over. (I am generally a size 10 in clothes, but my hips are wider and the 36" 12-14 Arabel knickers fit me beautifully.)

Dual knicker sizing chart:

30" 6-8
32" 8-10
34" 10-12
36" 12-14
38" 14-16
40" 16-18
42" 18-20
44" 20-22

I am a huge fan of the stretch lace used in these knickers. The material is very soft against the skin and there is no digging in at all, making them really comfortable to wear everyday. I also think that these knickers would be ideal for bridal wear as 'something blue', paired with the 'Sugarplum' garter belt in blue.

I was also impressed by how pretty and sturdy the garter/suspender belt was in real life. I went for a plain black version of the 'Sugarplum' garter belt (which is available in blue, pink or white on the website). The garter belt is made from a thick black elastic with a smooth underside, so that it sits comfortably against your skin without rubbing.

The garter belt features six adjustable suspender straps - a nice change from the more common four strap garter belts. The belt fastens at the back with a single hook and eye closure (with three tightness settings). Having six straps does make the process of attaching them to stockings a little more time consuming, but the benefit is that when attached, you do feel as though your stockings will stay securely in place all day. The 'slider' clasps are also decorated with adorable satin bows - a beautiful finishing touch!

Once again, the 'Sugarplum' garter belt is a 'made-to-measure' garment, so I gave Sarah my measurement (a touch below my natural waist as I wanted it to sit slightly lower). It is very useful having the three rows of hooks as I can tighten or loosen it according to where I want the belt to sit. The pictures show the garter belt in two different positions, but it tends to sit slightly lower than my belly button as in the top picture.

The garter belt was surprisingly comfortable to wear, holding my stockings up with no slipping. The garter belt is really versatile in black and it looks gorgeous with the Arabel 'Forget Me Not' ruffle knickers, as well as with just about any lingerie set in my underwear drawer!

I am really thrilled with my Arabel Lingerie knickers and suspender belt and cannot praise enough how good it is to own lingerie that is exquisitely pretty, comfortable, excellent quality and made to your measurements! Sarah's bespoke service is great as you can order any of her designs to be made in a different colourway and you can even contact her directly if you fancy a made-to-measure lingerie creation of your own imagination.

Arabel Lingerie is set to introduce even more exciting lingerie pieces to its collections this year and Sarah has mentioned cup sized bras, swimwear, corsetry and even 'plus sized lingerie' (depending on the demand). Sarah recognises that "everyone has their own fit problems" when it comes to lingerie and her brand, Arabel Lingerie, seeks to cater to each unique individual with great fit, high quality and a sprinkle of sugar, pixie dust and lingerie magic!

(Next on my wishlist is the Gwenhyfar garter belt and knicker set!)

Basking in beauty: Tutti Rouge 'Betty' bra and knicker review

Over the last few months, waves of excitement have coursed through the Lingerie blogging community, heralding the arrival of a new fuller bust lingerie brand! Think cup cakes and pillow fights, add a dash of eye-catching colour and adorable prints, then top it off with a sprinkling of flirty satin and lace.. and voila! Say hello to the new brand on the block that is creating a buzz...Tutti Rouge!

Baking cakes, pillow fights.. and that's just the advert!

Tutti Rouge is the brain child of Jessica Prebble, a lady who is certainly no stranger to the Lingerie scene! With 17 years of experience in the Intimates sector (including a degree in Contour Fashion from De Montfort University, a Masters in Textiles from Birmingham UCE and work with lingerie giants such as Bravissimo and Debenhams), it seemed apt that Jessica began her own label. Her wealth of knowledge has led her to develop a brand that answers the prayers of many younger, larger busted girls who struggle to find fashion-conscious (and affordable!) lingerie in both padded and unpadded bra styles.

Jessica understands that design, fit, quality and affordability go hand in hand: "Tutti rouge will break a few hearts but she won't break the bank" and it is precisely this philosophy that Tutti Rouge delivers. Tutti Rouge injects a new lease of life into the lingerie market with fashionable designs that are guaranteed to turn heads. Tutti Rouge offers fresh, fun and flirty underwear styles in back sizes 28-38 and cup sizes DD-HH/J, meaning that a large range of fuller busted women can enjoy the Tutti effect!

If you have been keeping a-breast (see what I did there!?) of the Tutti updates via Facebook, you will have noticed that Tutti Rouge have staggered the release of their debut collection. The fuchsia pink unpadded 'Liliana' set was first to launch, followed by the most recent: 'Betty'. As Undercover Lingerista readers may know, I tend to favour moulded bra styles, so 'Betty' really caught my eye with her scrumptious icing-coloured satin, her feminine poppy print and her flirty ruffle trim.. and who can resist those adorable matching shorties?

Thanks to the Tutti Team, I was lucky enough to be able to try this set out for myself. The 'Betty' set arrived in a chic black box with the pink 'Tutti Rouge' logo emblazoned on the front. Inside the box, wrapped in light pink tissue paper (along with a yummy stick of rock!), was my beautiful new set of lingerie...

As you can see, the 'Betty' set really is a sight to behold and the colour palette is ideal for Spring/Summer! The 'Betty' bra and shortie knickers feature an unusual floral/ poppy print design in pink and mint tones, which sits atop a yellowy-cream base of satin. The poppy print has an almost oriental feel to it - something that makes it stand apart from the plethora of 'traditional' floral patterns that dominate the current lingerie market. The warm yellow/gold undertone of the satin also compliments my pale skin perfectly and its luxurious sheen makes this set look more expensive than it actually is!

Additionally, the 'Betty' set boasts some really special embellishments that demonstrate Tutti Rouge's desire to be different! A delightful frilled hem line sits along the edge (and on the underside) of the cups, whilst vivid pink bows adorn the centre of the bra cups - a detail that also features on the adorable matching knickers!

It is clear that a lot of thought has gone into the embellishments and finer details. The poppy print is extended to the satin-wrapped bra straps (a concept that many other brands overlook!) The straps are also purposefully quite thin (1.5cm) and with their pretty pattern, I would definitely have no qualms about showing them off! The only downside to them is that they are not fully adjustable!

The bra straps also boast decorative heart-shaped strap adjusters - another gorgeous and very well-thought out design feature of the 'Betty'!

As you can see from the picture (below), the 'Betty' fastens with 2 hooks (DD-G cups, 3 hooks for GG-HH cups) and once again, Tutti Rouge adds a playful twist with the Tutti Rouge logo embossed on the closure.

With regard to construction, the 'Betty' bra is an underwired and lightly padded/ moulded balconette style bra, featuring a two-part cup construction with a soft foam lining that makes this bra very comfortable to wear..

When it comes to fit, however, I was not completely satisfied. I tried both a 28G and 30FF in the 'Betty' and neither band was quite right for me and the centre gore did not quite tack to my chest in either size. I put the 30FF 'Betty' straight on to the tightest hook, so imagine my surprise when I could only just fasten the 28G on the loosest setting! When I measured the two bands, the 30FF measured 63cm and the 28G measured 55cm, which gives around a 3 inch difference between the band lengths. The mesh band is quite stretchy, so I probably could have bought a bra back extender for the 28G bra, but I chose to keep the 30FF for ease.

Band size aside, I feel that the cup volume was spot on in the (30)FF and the 'Betty' gives a lovely, uplifted shape to a fuller bust without being OTT. The 'Betty' lifts the bust to give a subtle cleavage, making it ideal for a variety of necklines. In fact, the shape of 'Betty' reminds me slightly of the 'Thrill Me' (one of my favourite Curvy Kate bras to date), but with slightly wider underwires.

***

Let us not forget the gorgeous satin and poppy print 'Betty' retro shorties (Size S-XL). Once again, Tutti Rouge have hit the nail on the head when it comes to attention to detail! The knickers are panelled and edged by Tutti's playful ivory frill, but the real 'wow' feature is found on the back of the knickers..

The sassy triangular key hole detail at the top of the knickers is a really knock-out feature and the little pink bow adds a touch of colour to the plain ivory mesh. The mesh is semi-sheer, giving a cheeky peek of flesh underneath (if you'll forgive the pun!)

I really enjoyed the fit of the 'Betty' shorties and the size M was generous but well-fitting (no one likes knickers that dig in!) They are extremely comfortable to wear on an everyday basis and the gathered ruching on the back panel contours beautifully to the curves of your derrière!

Overall, 'Betty' really hits the mark when it comes to aesthetics - the design is unique and refreshing, the fabrics are great quality and the attention to detail is impressive! 'Betty' epitomises the carefree spirit of Tutti Rouge and this set brings back the fun and frivolity to lingerie (something that occasionally gets lost in translation with all the bondage-inspired/ Fifty Shades-inspired lingerie on the scene at present). The 'Betty' is a set that will make girls feel truly special, confident, trendy and girly and I wish that Tutti Rouge had been around when I was a teenager!

The Tutti Rouge 'Betty' bra is available to buy at £32 for the bra and £16 for the knickers at Bravissimo.

***

I am really excited to try more from Tutti Rouge and I already have my eye on the sassy, purple spotted 'Frankie' bra and suspender skirt set (below):

With Tutti's bright and colourful styles, fabulous attention to detail, impressive size range, and attractive price points, the brand is certainly putting the fun back into fuller busted lingerie with frillies that make you feel fabulous!

Take a look at Tutti Rouge's A/W13 video to get a glimpse of the lingerie delights that Tutti have in the pipeline...can you spot the new 'Betty' colourway?

Flirty in 'Fiona': Parfait by Affinitas 'Fiona' camisole review

$

If you have read my blog about the Affinitas Intimates A/W12 press event a little while ago, you may have noticed that I took quite a shine to the Affinitas fuller bust range, 'Parfait', which encompasses sizes 30D-40G.

Although I feel lucky that the larger bust lingerie market is expanding and I can now get a range of beautiful and supportive bras for all occasions in my size, it is not always quite as easy to find a bustier, camisole or babydoll for larger cup sizes. Highstreet stores often sell them in standardised clothing sizes with no cup sizes, so finding a boudoir beauty to fit a 28FF is about as unsuccessful as trying to squeeze my bust into those very same standardised undergarments!

As you can imagine, I was thrilled to come across 'Parfait' as the current collection offers some really glamorous and sexy boudoir pieces in addition to flirty everyday bras and comfy basics. One of the designs that particularly caught my eye was Parfait's padded wired 'Fiona' camisole in peacock blue, which Affinitas Intimates kindly sent me to try out...

As 'Parfait' starts at a 30 back (and I'd heard reports that the 30 backs come up tighter than other brands), I decided to go for a 30F (sister size to my usual 28FF) and a size M (10/12) in the matching boyshorts.

The Parfait 'Fiona' is a beautiful camisole made from silky stretch satin in a jewel tone blue (also comes in wine purple, black or white), complete with black lace trim along the underwired cups. The peacock blue tone was even more glamorous in the flesh and the satin has a slight shimmer to it when it catches the light. I really love the attention to detail on the 'Fiona' too - it features subtle pleats on the straps, embroidered panelling down the torso of the chemise and stylish contrasting black lace on the cups and a little bow and sequin motif at the centre of the cups.

Additionally, the 'Fiona' boasts an absolutely knock-out detail at the back - a decorative lace-up corset design with ribbon ties and double layered mesh back panels, giving this camisole added sex appeal.

Aside from this camisole's obvious aesthetic appeal, it is also very easy to take on and off. There is no fiddly lacing up to do as the 'Fiona' has a half zipper and clasp closure at the side.

I was pleased that the 'Fiona' in a 30 back was a good fit - not too snug or too loose. The stretch satin and mesh fabric makes the 'Fiona' very comfortable to wear and the material follows the natural contours of the body without feeling restrictive like some shapewear can. The only downside to the fabric is that it rucks up a little bit when worn, but it does not distract from this garment's beauty.

I felt very glamorous in this striking camisole and the peacock blue colour really pops against your skin tone whatever complexion you have. The black contrast lace also gives a hint of old Hollywood elegance to the 'Fiona', which I absolutely loved.

I also really like that this camisole has moulded underwired cups - it is nice to have a little bit of lift and the 'Fiona' gives a great rounded shape to your cleavage. It is worth mentioning that the straps are only part adjustable and I had to tighten them as much as they would go. Luckily, as the 'Fiona' is not an 'everyday' item, I should still get plenty of wear out of this camisole without the straps becoming too loose too quickly. My only real regret with the 'Fiona' is that I ordered a 30F not 30FF and I feel that the cups ran a bit small (although not very obvious from the above pictures).

I am glad that I went for the Medium boyshort knickers (roughly a UK 10-12) as they fit me beautifully. They remind me a little bit in style of the Curvy Kate 'Thrill Me' shorts, but refined with less ruffles. Again, made from stretch satin, the 'Fiona' boyshorts are really comfortable to wear and look great on. The black lace, grosgrain sequin bow at the centre and ruffle trim make these boyshorts exude seductive sophistication and are sure to make you feel a million dollars.

It's worth adding that these boyshorts give quite full coverage to your derrière but are still very flirty thanks to the mesh panel at the back - a great example of how less (fabric) is not always more (sexy)! Additionally, I love that they come with detachable suspenders - they look fabulous with black stockings to mirror the black lace contrast on the 'Fiona' camisole and knickers!

I am really excited to have found 'Parfait' by Affinitas and the 'Fiona' is a truly glamorous 'boudoir' set. I also have my eye on some of the babydolls from the upcoming A/W collection which are absolutely gorgeous!

'Parfait' is certainly 'one to watch' and I will definitely be exploring more of this exciting brand in future...

Boux Avenue A/W12 press day & Robyn Lawley..Embrace your curves!

A little while back I was lucky enough to be invited to Fluorescent PR's Autumn/Winter 2012 showcase, which included Boux Avenue. Boux has been all over the media recently after revealing Robyn Lawley as the new face (and curves) of the brand's new collection, 'Embrace your curves'

Robyn is a stunning 6ft 2", size 14/16 (AUS) plus size model who hails from Austalia. Having graced the covers of Italian Vogue, French Elle and Marie claire, Robyn seems to be a great choice for the brand not just for her looks, but for her great outlook on body image. Robyn has mentioned that in the past she has struggled with eating disorders, but she has grown to love her body and her curves:

"My body looks better as it is because that's the size I'm supposed to be, with curves. It's my natural body shape." (Australian Madison Magazine)

It is refreshing to see her as the new brand figure head and it sends out a really positive message to women to be proud of their body, whatever shape or size..

The Boux Avenue Autumn/Winter 2012 showcase was also nothing short of gorgeous, with an array of exciting new prints, colours and fabrics to make you feel fabulously flirty and feminine in true boudoir style. The 'Embrace your curves' collection is very size inclusive for a 'high street' name, offering sizes 30A-40H and sizes 8-20 in coordinates and nightwear. There was even a fabulous boudoir dressing table set up to display Boux's fashion and beauty accessories!

    ***

Looking at Boux Avenue A/W12, three themes pervade the collection. The first is animal print, with everything from leopard print bras to bodies, chemises, loungewear, fluffy marabou mules and cat slippers!

(I love the black contrast piping on this body and bra set)

Another key trend is luxurious jewel tones - purple, turquoise, raspberry pink and yellow chartreuse are married with opulent satin and lace fabric combinations...

'Lyla' satin balconette bra, £26 (30C-40G) - This raspberry coloured set makes fir a great update to traditional festive red and the delicate black contrasting lace gives a glamorous and seductive feel. This bra also comes with the option of 'fifties sex kitten' style high waisted shorts (£16)!

The unusual 'Carina' plunge bra in chartreuse, £26 (30E-38G) - I'm a sucker for a pretty plunge, so I'm keen to try this as I love the shape of it on the model (pictured above).

Lacey plunge bra in violet lace, £24 (30A-38F) (another rich purple tone bra)

The third main theme of the collection was a vintage revival in the form of elegant balconettes in satin with sophisticated patterns of polka dots and vintage floral lace overlays, coupled with mesh, tulle, frills, bows and charms that hark back to bygone eras. These sets feel very 'old Hollywood'...

    'Carmen' bandeau bra, £26 (32A-30E)

    (Lace rosette bra)

'Nancie' satin and lace balconette bra, £26 (32A-38F) - One of my collection favourites, the 'Nancie' is a stunning peach tone satin and lace balconette bra that oozes vintage chic with its floral lace pattern, little frills and bow and cameo charm at the centre of the cups. This would make a great bridal bra alternative - if only it came in my size!

    ***

The Boux Avenue A/W12 collection has some really gorgeous styles to suit a variety of tastes. I was a particular fan of the decadent jewel tones, satin and lace combinations and soft blush tones and vintage detailing. My only niggle is that not all of the lingerie starts at a 30 back and only select styles go up to an H. That aside, it's great to see more larger cup sizes readily available from a big name commercial brand!

Whilst I didn't have a great amount of luck with my first Boux Avenue try out, I am keen to try some newer styles in a 30 back as a few people have mentioned that some of them may work for a 28 back too.

Perhaps this A/W will see me 'embracing my curves' in some new Boux Avenue lingerie...

The Sports Bra Olympics: Freya Active, Shock Absorber, Panache Sport & Pure Lime

    $
    0
    0

With such a buzz surrounding the London 2012 Olympics and 'Olympic fever' spanning far and wide, everyone has united to support their country's athletes in the pursuit of gold medal triumph. Whether you managed to attend the spectacular opening ceremony, saw any of the games in action or have watched them from the comfort of your living room, sport has definitely been the word on everyone's tongues (and will probably continue to be for a while after the closing ceremony!)

The Olympics definitely inspired this post about sports bras because it is so important to feel supported and comfortable when exercising. Wearing a sports bra can make the difference to any woman (Olympian or otherwise) in terms of comfort, performance, confidence and overall enjoyment of Sport.

I have never been a huge fan of exercise, but around 6 months ago I decided to get back into it and joined the gym to increase my fitness. One reason that I didn't like Sport previously was because I didn't feel comfortable and supported whilst exercising. About 2/3 years ago, (pre-Bravissimo refitting and living abroad)  I decided to give running a go with my flatmate, so off to the shops I trundled and came back with an elasticated Nike sports bra which offered little to no support. After the discomfort of my first run, I decided that the best option was to put a bra on underneath my sports bra, but I was still bouncing all over the place! Naturally, after a few runs I gave up.

Since being refitted and wanting to get back into exercising, I have realised that sport and discomfort do not have to go hand in hand and that there are some great sports bras out there for the larger busted. It is so important for women (regardless of size) to wear a correctly fitting sports bra for exercise. The breasts are made from fatty tissue rather than muscle, meaning that they require the support of a sports bra to prevent discomfort and irreversible damage to the breast tissue and ligaments. Wearing a sports bra should make you feel comfortable and supported during exercise and will also help to prevent stretching and sagging.

After my decision to try Sport again, I have been on the search for a fantastic sports bra. In this blog post I will be putting 4 sports bras to the test at the gym: The Pure Lime High Impact Compression Bra, Shock Absorber Ultimate Run Bra, Freya Active Magenta Underwired Sports Bra and Panache Sport Purple Sports Bra. (Gym exercises include rowing, running, cross training, floor work and resistance machines)

The question is, which bra will be victorious and which will win the 'Undercover Lingerista' gold, silver and bronze medals?

Challenger 1: Pure Lime High Impact Compression Bra, (original RRP: £34.99)

PureLime is a Scandinavian brand who manufacture a range of sportswear. Pure Lime aims to "produce the most feminine, fashionable and high quality performance sportswear for women, that reflects their priorities to look good and then perform." I found this quite an interesting statement because it suggests that aesthetics is the number one priority rather than fit! Never-the-less, this was the first sports bra that I had bought since being refitted as a 28FF - it was a bargain at £4 on ebay (brand new with tags), so I thought that it would be a good place to start.

    FEATURES:

    • Compression sports bra (functions by 'strapping down' the cleavage to restrict movement)
    • Made from 'Cool Max' material to move moisture from the skin to the outer layer of the fabric to keep you cool
    • Adjustable padded shoulder straps
    • Anti-stretch cup separation
    • Side support for lift and to reduce side movements
    • Machine washable

This bra is apparently a test winning bra, so I had high hopes for it. I bought this bra in a 28FF and the back band felt tight but manageable. Sizing is quite difficult in this sports bra because it does not have any cup separation or underwires. As a compression bra, it constricts the chest (read also: squashes down), making it difficult to tell how it is fitting you unless you are getting obvious cleavage spillage or bulging. In future, however, I might consider sizing up to a 28G to avoid feeling so 'crammed' into this bra.

I would liken the design of this Pure Lime bra to the elasticated panel sports bras that I wore when I was younger, but with a few extra support features. I would say that the support from this bra is average (although much better than the Nike one that I tried a few years back!) I had a bit more bounce than I would like when I put it through its paces at the gym, but it wasn't so uncomfortable that I would resort to putting a regular bra on underneath. I did have a bit of shoulder ache during and after wearing this bra unfortunately and on one occasion a strap actually unhooked itself whilst I was rowing! I was also not a great fan of the way that the elastic at the bottom of the band rolled up when worn and I didn't really enjoy the constricting feeling of the compression cups.

However, there are some benefits to this bra that can't be overlooked. I like the fact that the straps can be worn normally or be made into a racer back, making it versatile for wear with different gym attire. It also has a thick band and 4 hook and eye fastenings at the back, which gives extra anchorage and security when worn. I also love that it is machine washable (hand-washing after every wear to the gym is very tedious!) and quite quick-drying.

Challenger 2: Shock Absorber Ultimate Run Bra, (RRP: £37)

Shock Absorber is a very well-known sports bra brand, having launched in 1995 after the publication a year earlier of results by Edinburgh University into the negative effects of exercising on the female body.  Shock Absorber have worked with the University of Portsmouth in addition to carrying out their own research in order to produce a range of sports bras that perform to a high level and provide 'style, comfort and quality'. The Shock Absorber 'Run' bra is the result of a collaboration with Dr Joanna Scurr, a Breast Biomechanics Professor and this bra claims to "reduce breast bounce (by) as much as 78%" (results based on a University of Portsmouth 2009 test against 'no bra conditions').

As the name suggests, the 'Run' bra is specifically designed for running and comes in sizes 30-36 A and 30-38 B-F, so I decided to try a 30F (sister size to my usual 28FF).

    FEATURES:
    • Soft, seamless material to minimise rubbing or chafing
    • Wide non-slip padded straps
    • Reflective strip across the bust for high visibility
    • Open back, clip and back hook and eye fastenings
    • Made from moisture-wicking, breathable sports performance fabrics
    • 'Infinity-8' support system to counteract 'figure of eight' movement of breast bounce whilst running

Although this sports bra does not come in a 28 back, the 30 back came up very tight and there would be no way that I would downsize in the band even if the option were available! The Shock Absorber 'Run' bra in fact felt even tighter than the Pure Lime High Impact Compression bra which was a 28FF! As you can see from the picture below, the 30F Shock Absorber is actually smaller in the band than the Pure Lime 28FF!

Despite this Shock Absorber bra working by compressing the bust, it looks quite good on and the shape that it gives me is quite rounded. I also really like the design of this bra, which is simple but attractive - the reflective silver strips add some interest and are a great visibility feature for those running in the outdoors.

I enjoyed wearing this bra in the gym more than the Pure Lime and I only had a bit of bounce from it, so overall it was supportive to exercise in. The fabric is also really smooth against the skin and it has central, underarm and underbust breathable moisture-wicking panels which draw sweat away from the body, making for a more comfortable work out. I also liked the feel of the straps (which are positioned closer to the neck). They don't dig into my shoulders as much as the Pure Lime and the back clasp has padding for extra comfort!

One thing that was a bit difficult was the putting on and taking off of this sports bra. Firstly, as it is so tight, I cannot do this bra up without putting it on from the front and twisting it round. Secondly, the 'snap clip' at the top of the back is very difficult to fasten by yourself. I would also consider upsizing in the band next time around as I feel that even in the 30 back it is a little too tight for my liking!

Overall, the Shock Absorber 'Run' performed well across a range of activities in the gym (not just running). I am not 100% that I like 'compression bras' best for exercise, but this is the best one that I have tried so far.

Challenger 3: Freya Active Magenta Underwired Sports Bra, (RRP: £29)

After launching Freya Active in 2008, Freya has developed a range of sports performance wear, from clothing to underwired, moulded and soft cup sports bras. Freya realised the need for innovation and consequently developed non-compression and separation sports bra styles, to give women another option when exercising. They are also the official partner to the England Netball team and have been involved in the 'Back to Netball Scheme', an initiative to promote sport UK-wide.

After seeing the Freya Active underwired sports bra at the Eveden Autumn/Winter 2012 press day, I was very keen to try it out. This bra comes in sizes 28 D-G and 30-38 D-H, so I was able to try out my usual size of 28FF in the Magenta 'fashion colourway'...

    FEATURES:

    • Wide curvature wire for comfortable and supportive fit
    • Puncture-resistant wire casing allowing for it to be machine washed
    • CoolMax® fabric lining to wick moisture away from the skin
    • Double fabric and cooling mesh panels
    • Built-up padded straps
    • Padded hook and eye with soft seal for added comfort

Unlike many traditional sports bras, the Freya Active underwired sports bra is an encapsulation rather than compression bra, meaning that instead of the bust being restricted, the breast tissue is separately encased by the cups. I found this very helpful in ascertaining whether this bra fit me correctly as the cups are underwired and it is easier to see if the breasts are not properly encased.

The 28FF is a really good fit in this sports bra - the band is firm (there are four hooks and eyes on the fastening for extra security) and the cups are a great fit. I really like the feel of this bra when worn - it is double lined with a soft and smooth feeling CoolMax® fabric which wicks sweat away from the skin and the straps are slightly padded to ease pressure on the shoulders.

I was also lucky enough to try out the matching Freya Active thong, which is seamless and made from Coolmax Fresh® to keep you cool and comfortable. Although I probably wouldn't wear a thong to the gym, it was super soft and had a cute key-hold detail at the back.

The Freya Active sports bra performs really well in the gym and I get an excellent level of support with very minimal bounce. Aesthetically, I love the magenta and grey colour scheme which is feminine and chic. (Freya have also created other colour options for this bra; black, white, nude, red and charcoal, so there really is something for a wide range of preferences!) I also like the coverage from this sports bra - it dips slightly lower than other sports bra styles. Having a little more skin open to the air is quite nice when you are working up a sweat in the gym, but the support is still there as the underwired cups keep everything in place.

Although I really like this bra in all other respects, the one thing that I am not so keen on is the pointy shape that it gives my bust! After doing a little bit of research on the internet, it seems that a lot of people have experienced the Madonna-esque cone bra look from this sports bra and as you can see from the picture (below), even my plastic mannequin got the same effect!

The main reason for this pointy effect is most likely due to the construction of the cups, which have a central seam that runs straight across the middle of the breasts. For me personally, this is not the optimum shape that I would desire from a sports bra, so I tend to wear this bra under more loose fitting gym t-shirts to hide the shape. Pointy-ness aside, I really like this bra and it is an added bonus that it is machine washable!

Challenger 4: Panache Sport Purple Sports Bra, (RRP: £35)

Ever since attending the Panache Spring/Summer 2012 press day, I have been really excited to try out their new Sports bra! This bra was created after 3 years of research and testing with Loughborough University's Progressive Sports Technologies, using 3D motion and biomechanical tracking techniques to measure the effects of the sports bra on breast bounce. This bra claims to reduce breast bounce by 83% (compared to wearing no bra) and it has an impressive range of sizing from 28-40 inch backs and B-H cups, meaning that more women can benefit from the support of this bra. Fortunately for me, I was able to try my usual size of 28FF in the purple colourway of this bra..

    FEATURES:

    • Wide, padded straps to disperse pressure on shoulders for added comfort
    • Smooth, moulded cups to reduce friction
    • Underwires wrapped in silicone
    • Smooth shape with flat seams
    • Lightweight microfiber fabric wicks moisture away from skin
    • Breathable mesh panels

The Panache Sports bra (like the Freya Active) encapsulates and separates the breasts rather than compresses them. This bra in a 28FF fits me really well - the band is snug and my breast tissue is fully encased in the wired cups with no bulging anywhere. I especially like that the underwires are wrapped in silicone and sewn between the fabric layers, meaning that they are extremely comfortable and soft against the skin. I also liked that I could tell that the hidden wires were sitting flush against my chest, without causing any digging in at all.

I really loved the look of this bra when worn too. The cups of this bra are moulded, giving a great rounded shape to the bust without minimising or squashing the bust down as compression bras tend to. Aesthetically, Panache have done a brilliant job by introducing 'fashion colours' in addition to their classic black and white sports bras. I particularly like this purple, grey and pink version, which is ideal for women who also want to feel stylish from head to toe when they're working out!

To top it off, the Panache sports bra feels great on and performs really well whilst exercising too. Although it does not 100% 'banish the bounce' (I don't think any sports bra is 100% bounce-free), it does feel very supportive and comfortable and greatly reduces movement too. The band feels snug and supportive without being in any way uncomfortable and the slightly padded straps reduce digging in at the shoulders. I also like that the hook and eye fastening is cushioned for added comfort. Another great feature of this bra is that there is a little clip at the back on one of the straps to create a racer back option.

My only criticism of this sports bra is that it is not machine washable. Although that would have been the icing on the cake, I really like this bra and I would be willing to trade in the ease of machine washing for a great sports bra.

    ...AND THE RESULTS ARE IN!

Which sports bras won the 'Undercover Lingerista' Bra-lympian medals?

Pure Lime: No medal won (Not a bad sports bra and I can't really complain for £4, but equally, there are some disadvantages to this bra that need ironing out before it gets my vote.)

Shock Absorber: Bronze Medal (A good sports bra with some great features. Perhaps if I went up to a 32 back in this bra, it might have scored higher.)

Freya Active: Silver Medal (A great sports bra that scores very highly on fit, support and comfort, but just missed out on gold due to the pointy shape of the cups.)

Panache Sport: Gold Medal (This bra is an all-rounder with fantastic support, fit and shape and it looks lovely on too!)

Although it was hard to pick a winner as all of the sports bras that I tried had their pros and cons, the real decision for me was choosing between the Freya Active and Panache sports bras as I loved both and would highly recommend them. The two bras performed very well across an array of gym activities, so the clincher actually resided in aesthetics - primarily, the shape. An important factor for me is that I also feel good about the way that I look in a sports bra. I loved the shape from the Panache sports bra (..if you were daring enough, you could even get away with wearing this on its own!)

Wearing a supportive and well-fitting sports bra has contributed to me enjoying sports again and I am so glad that none of the bras that I tried required me to wear my day-to-day bra underneath! Now that I have discovered the rewards of exercising with a great-fitting sports bras first hand, I will definitely be preaching the benefits to anyone that will listen. Hmm..I wonder what would happen if I left a few leaflets lying around the gym for women to see...?!

    Panache Autumn/Winter 2012 Press Event

A while back I attended the Panache Autumn/Winter 2012 press launch, where the new collections from Panache Superbra, Panache Swimwear, Panache Sport, Cleo and Masquerade were put on display for lucky press attendees. Press days normally come about a few months before the launch of new collections in stores, so I am actually very excited to be reviewing the collections now as some of the products are just coming out in shops and online and will continue to do so in the upcoming months! Now there's no need to feel pangs of bra-lust and not be able to buy for months on end...

The actual press day was held at The House of St Barnabas, a stunning Georgian building situated in Soho.

After ascending an intricate staircase of wrought-iron balustrades, I reached 'The Drawing Room' which was a spacious room boasting impressive plasterwork, an ornate fireplace, hanging chandelier..and bed! The room was decked out with beautiful lingerie from Panache, which was hung from display rails and draped across the bed. The lingerie was also displayed on the lovely Panache models and was even mounted in picture frames..!

After a delicious cupcake, I took a look at the Panache Superbra A/W12 collection...

Panache Superbra A/W12 takes its inspiration from Art Deco and Art Decoratif patterns and prints. The collection is suffused with rich Oriental-inspired tones of ruby, orchid pink, opulent teal, purple and gold. Panache Superbra is all about functional sophistication and the A/W12 collection serves up nothing less...

A new introduction for this season, the Panache 'Jasmine' presents a delicate oriental-inspired bird and branch print. Its black base colour is complimented by flashes of colour in the bird print whilst the stretch lace and bow detail at the centre give this set a feminine finish.

The Panache 'Eden' comes in a lovely midnight blue tone and features mesh panels on the cups, which are decorated with blue, white and aqua floral embroidery.

The 'Andorra' is one of Panache's bestsellers, going up to a J cup in its full cup style and an H cup in its plunge. The new season 'lagoon' blue colour is a great fashion colour that will suit a variety of skin tones.

The Panache 'Fern' is a real stand-out piece from this collection, oozing Art Deco appeal with its midnight blue base and exquisite 'arabesque inspired' floral pattern.

The 'Ariza' is made over for A/W12 with an eye-catching palette of black, pink and purple. It features beautiful Swiss embroidery in a floral pattern along the cups, for a look that is both elegant and bold.

If you're looking for glamour, the 'Sienna' in 'lagoon' is perfect with its rich blue colour and ornate black lace overlay. (This bra is one of my collection favourites!)

The Panache 'Melody' comes in a lovely ruby tone and boasts a slightly scalloped edge to the cups with leaf-style embroidery.

Panache's 'Porcelain Viva' in Ruby - a basic that packs a colour punch!

Panache 'Tango' has reached its 10 year anniversary and to celebrate, the 'Tango Luxe' returns in this stunning orchid hue for the new season. I love the contrasting satin, which adds decadence to an everyday 'basic'.

     (Panache 'Tango' available in purple)

    Next up, was Panache Swimwear:

Panache's A/W12 Swimwear collection takes a dive into the popular nautical trend with red, white and blue striped prints and braided rope-style detailing. The collection also includes bold floral patterns and subtle animal prints with tribal inspired motifs in edgy colours. A great feature of this collection is the wide variety of swimwear styles; from swimsuits to bikinis to tankinis, alongside standard coordinates to retro style high waisted briefs with flattering panel details..ideal for stylish mixing and matching!

    Panache 'Stella' range:

Panache's underwired bandeau bikinis have proved popular from season to season and the 'Stella' bandeau is equally chic with its red, white and blue colour block stripes. The navy blue rope detail motif at the centre adds a great nautical finish!

For those of you that like a little extra coverage on the beach, the 'Stella' plunge tankini is ideal for showing off your best assets in style. If you prefer a bikini on the beach, this balconette bikini is a great alternative. The matching 'fold down' briefs mean that you can vary your coverage depending on your mood!

How gorgeous does Charlotte look in this navy and white nautical plunge bikini? The plunge top lends to an amazing cleavage and the bottoms are perfect for lengthening legs!

    Panache 'Lola' range:

If you want to wear animal print in an unconventional way, the 'Lola' is the epitome of edgy glamour. This new style comes in vivid pink with a faint animal stripe print and contrasting gold embellishments.

The 'Lola' also comes in utterly sophisticated black with stunning silver and turquoise stone embellishments. This is definitely one for my lust list!

    Panache 'Veronica':

Best-seller 'Veronica' is updated for A/W12 in this rich 'lagoon' blue tone. The soft sheen fabric makes this set very luxurious and feminine and the ruching on the swimsuit looks ideal for hiding any lumps and bumps.

    Panache 'Tallulah' range:

If you like a touch of retro styling, you will love the new 'Tallulah' range. Choose from a tankini, swimsuit or bikini in this stylish painterly floral print. 'Tallulah' also boasts a high waisted bikini pant with panels to flatter your curves, drawing attention up to your waist to give you an hourglass look!

(Heather models the high waisted briefs to perfection here!)

    Panache Sport:

As many of you know from my recent glowing review of this Panache sports bra, Panache are champions of great fit and superior support whilst exercising! Panache's sports bra (available from B-H cup) 'banishes the bounce' with cups that encapsulate the breasts, rather than compressing them. Panache have brought out a 'British coloured' version of their classic sports bra in blue, white and red and have also announced a collaboration with CoppaFeel! in aid of promoting breast care. Panache will be launching a pink colourway of their sports bra this October and will donate a percentage of the sales to the CoppaFeel! charity...

    Cleo by Panache:

The Cleo by Panache A/W12 collection is certainly sugar and spice and everything nice! With its 'sweet treats' theme and gorgeous campaign imagery, the collection presents quirky abstract prints, bold colours and bows galore. Cleo has definitely cooked up some lingerie delights for Cleo fans..

One of my favourite pieces was the trendy and girly 'Leila' bra, which comes in a pinky/purple tone, complete with black mesh overlay, ribbon embroidery and pink bow motifs. The high waisted briefs are a great 'high fashion' alternative to classic briefs and look very curve-flattering thanks to the mesh panels down the sides.

Cleo's popular 'Lucy' bra gets a makeover in navy and pink for A/W12 - you can see my review of the pink version here.

The 'Marcie' balconette is a new addition for A/W12 and its vivid red hue makes it a great bra for flirting your way through the Christmas months. The delicate trellis embroidery, polkadots and bow and button motifs give this set a quirky and fun edge.

The new Cleo 'Meg' bra is a real stand-out piece with its striking blue and silver swallow print on a navy base. The scalloped edging and red ribbon and bow trims add to this set's trendy appeal.

Another new design to the collection, 'Natasha' mixes an animal/camouflage-esque print in a quirky purple colour palette with graphic style embroidery.

Upscaled polka dots are married with floral rose embroidery in the 'Zia' bra - the unusual grey, white and yellow colour scheme keeps this bra looking fresh.

With its quirky charcoal coloured animal print and delicate floral embroidery, the Cleo 'Hazel' is perfect for making an statement.

Based on the best-selling 'Juna' design, the 'Darcy' adds a fashion twist with its graphic heart print design and bold contrasting red trimmings.

The Cleo 'Jude' launches in feminine purple with fashionable navy lace trim and bows for A/W12.

    (Also available in black)

Last but not least, this brings me to talk about Masquerade, whose collections were set up in the adjacent 'Silk Room' (which had a lovely vintage print wallpaper and Chanel illustrations on the walls!)

Masquerade A/W12 is nothing short of sumptuous and indulgent, taking its inspiration from 'unearthed treasures'. The collection is replete with glamorous and seductive lingerie styles made from Italian satins, complemented by lace, embroidery and rich jewel colours and earthy hues..

The Masquerade 'Harem' is an alluring vintage-inspired plunge available in black, nude and fig, featuring elegant satin coupled with panels of lace.

New style 'Amor' is a beautiful sapphire blue set that exudes opulence and glamour. Its sweetheart plunge bra looks ideal for creating a lovely cleavage!

The highly anticipated 'Deity' bridal range looks set to impress with its luxurious soft Italian satin and Art Deco style stitching.

The 'Rosetti' bra is sure to set hearts a-flutter with its racy scarlet hue, ornate lace detailing and beautiful satin cuff edges..perfect for the Christmas season and all year round seduction!

Popular style, 'Delphi' comes back this A/W12 in this gorgeous boudoir black and ivory colourway. This bra also comes with the option of stylish high waisted briefs for a flattering feminine silhouette.

(Also comes as a stunning basque!)

If you remember 'Persia' from last season, you will be delighted to see that it has been brought back for this A/W in a beautiful sapphire blue hue, complete with Italian satin and tassle trims. With its nude base and jewel blue lace overlay, this sumptuous set is sure to be a hit!

    ***

Panache's Autumn/Winter 2012 collections are very strong and boast a really diverse array of lingerie and swimwear to suit different age ranges and tastes. It is always difficult to pick out collection favourites, but I really love Panache's swimwear range (which is particularly stunning this season), Cleo (for its fun prints) and Masquerade (because I can't get enough of these glamorous and luxurious lingerie sets!).

I am also already excited to see Panache's Spring/Summer 2013 collections as there are some new lines being added, including 'Sculptresse', Panache's new fuller figure range (sizes: 36-46 back, D-J cups and sizes 14-26 in co-ordinates):

    (Sculptresse by Panache S/S13)

Most of all, however, I am excited about the launch of Cleo Swimwear for Spring/Summer 2013! One of my long-standing wishes is that Panache Swimwear started at a 28 rather than 30 back, so I can't wait to try Cleo swimwear, which all starts at a 28 back!

Bling for your bra - Esty Lingerie choker strap review

    $
    0
    0

An accessory can be the perfect finishing touch to any outfit, so where does the lingerie market stand when it comes to underwear accessories?

You may be aware of the existence of functional bra-cessories such as your commonplace bra-extenders, comfort strap pads and chicken fillets but what about accessories that take your bra to the next level of aesthetic impact?

With the widespread furor caused by 'Fifty Shades of Grey', bondage accessories have taken to the stage in a big way and it seems that now, the sky is the limit when it comes to sprucing up your underwear with edgy (and sometimes risqué) accessories...

Although the 'Fifty Shades' book has bypassed me somewhat, bondage-inspired lingerie certainly hasn't! Anything strappy/cut-out/mesh/harness-like gets me weak at the knees, so I was delighted to stumble across Esty Lingerie's new and improved Accessories section

I have been a fan of Esty Lingerie for a while; the company boasts an extensive range of amazing independent designer names on its website that I regularly lust after. Even more exciting, however, is the fact that company director, Estelle Puleston, is also a lingerie designer and her new range of lingerie accessories is certainly something to get dreamy-eyed over!

Esty Lingerie's Accessories range is an ideal way to personalise and rejuvenate the lingerie that you already own and the collection includes everything from customised bra straps, suspender straps and garters to cuffs, harnesses and handcuffs! The accessories that really caught my eye were the gorgeous, bondage-inspired choker straps, which come in a variety of styles and colours..

What particularly excites me about the choker strap accessory is that it fuses the idea of a necklace, harness and bra strap to create something that bridges the gap between under and outer-wear. Bondage-inspired bras also do not tend to be readily available to small-backed and fuller busted girls such as myself, so a choker strap seemed to be an ideal way of customising the lingerie that I already owned!

I was over the moon when Esty Lingerie offered me the chance to channel the trend with an Esty choker strap of my choice! As a fan of Alexander McQueen and his trademark skull motifs, the black satin elastic choker bra strap with crystal skull seemed to be a great nod to the late designer!

The Esty Lingerie black satin choker strap is one size and is incredibly adaptable thanks to its stretch elastic and metal adjusters, which can be modified to fit the individual. To attach the choker strap, the bottom slider can be adjusted to form a loop and then all you have to do is slip it over the bra wing and slide it to the centre. Put on your bra as normal and then use the clip at the top to fasten the choker at the neck. Tighten or loosen the top and bottom sliders as necessary and voilà! Your very own custom bra harness!

Whilst I have tried my choker strap with plunge and balcony bras, I really love wearing my skull choker strap with a plain strapless bra like the black Freya Deco. The choker strap works so well with a strapless as the choker almost becomes part of the bra, creating a new bra design in itself. The eye is also drawn upwards to the neck, honing in on the glint of the diamanté skull charm and cute satin ribbon bow detail.

The Esty choker strap is well made and comfortable to wear, meaning that it is not limited to the boudoir; it can be incorporated into day and evening outfits alike. As the Esty skull choker is such a 'wow' piece and I am such a big fan of the lingerie as outerwear trend, I have enjoyed wearing my choker strap with slinky evening dresses, under blouses and even peeking out of casual vest tops.

I have put a few outfits together so that you can get a feel for some of the ways that the choker strap can be worn in harmony with clothing without looking OTT...

Day: Casual vests and acid wash jeans

    Neon vest top: Undiz (France)
    Acid wash jeggings: Topshop
    Stud boots: Primark

Neon is a huge trend at the moment and yellow/lime is one of this season's hottest shades - it looks great against a tan and it even works with my 'moon tan'! I love the contrast of the neon with my Topshop acid wash jeggings and my Primark studded boots tie in well with the skull choker strap - ideal for adding a rock-chic edge!

    Burgundy vest: New Look
    Acid wash jeggings: Topshop
    Stud boots: Primark

If you're not feeling daring enough to wear out-there neons this Summer, burgundy/rust is a great transitional shade that will take you into Autumn. Burgundy feels a little more sophisticated and understated and I love the relaxed simplicity of this outfit, whilst the choker strap turns up the heat.

    Evening: Mesh and velvet bodycon

    Dress: H&M Conscious collection

Let's just say that I was feeling unusually Gothic when I put this outfit together! I really like the textural contrast of the velvet with the mesh of this bodycon dress and the waterfall/batwing sleeves give this outfit plenty of dramatic impact. My Deco strapless works brilliantly under this dress, meaning that the only strap on show is my fabulous Esty skull choker strap!

As you can see, the Esty skull choker strap is a perfect way to spice up any outfit and it really gives the 'wow factor' to a variety of bra stylesIt is quite brilliant to me that you can totally transform your under and outerwear simply by slipping on choker strap! Aside from being easy to wear, the Esty choker is great quality, comfortable and the pièce de résistance? It only costs £10.99! An absolute steal considering its versatility, luxury appeal and suitability for ALL cup sizes!

I am such a fan of this skull choker strap, that I can't wait to add more Esty accessories to my collection. I might buy the matching skull bra straps or skull suspenders, but more likely I will get one of these beauties:

What do you think of Esty Lingerie's choker straps? Is bondage-inspired lingerie a trend that you would rock and how do you feel about lingerie accessories?

2013 has officially been and gone and I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy new year and to thank every one of you who has read my blog and supported my bra journey since the beginning in 2011!

The past year has certainly been a formative year for me personally and there have been huge decisions to make and adapt to (primarily with regard to work and moving house). Regular readers may have noticed a dip in the amount that I have been able to blog in 2013 due to these commitments, but 2014 fills me with excitement as I am starting a new chapter of my life and I am looking to blog more regularly. Without revealing too much, I am also going to be introducing new and more varied content to the blog and I am also looking to revamp it aesthetically, as my layout is in need of a makeover!

Thank you to everyone who entered my £100 luxury lingerie giveaway competition in collaboration with Honeys Lingerie Boutique - the response has been fantastic and it has definitely encouraged me to run more giveaways for you all in 2014!

The winner was picked by random.org (which, as the name suggests, generates a winner at random!) The lucky person who has bagged a £100 voucher to use at Honeys Lingerie Boutique on any lingerie of their choice is...

Harnessing the power: Body harness OOTD and review of the Freya Deco 'Spotlight' !

For my birthday last month, my husband was kind enough to treat me with a trip to The Crazy Bear hotel in Beaconsfield. The hotel is nothing short of opulent, with its brocade-patterned doors, chandeliers, gold leaf walls and quilted seating (and that's just the restaurant and bar!)

Our room was situated in the town house and it epitomised boudoir decadence with dim lighting and a backdrop of dark brocade wallpaper, heavy velour drapes with gold tassels and scarlet red carpet. The room was furnished with gothic-baroque elements such as an ornate gold mirror and a golden chandelier (dripping with red and black crystals)!

Having been to The Crazy Bear once before, I wanted my dinner outfit to reflect the outré décor and eccentric glamour of the hotel, so I put together an ensemble that centred upon a lingerie-come-fashion-accessory that I have not felt daring enough to wear out... until now! The item in question is my gold-studded, black, faux-leather ASOS harness (which has been hanging in my wardrobe, unworn, for around a year or so!) If the Crazy Bear was not good enough excuse to channel bondage-inspired outerwear, then I don't know what would be!

Harnesses can be very tricky to wear as outerwear because the styling has to be spot on - showing too much flesh was a 'no-no' for me as I felt that too much skin on display with a harness could look slightly indecent! I chose to channel the Crazy Bear colour scheme of red, black and gold in my outfit, starting with a simple bodycon midi dress in crushed red velvet, which I picked up in Primark for about £10!

The 'midi' has become a real wardrobe staple for me, as at 5ft10, they often come up shorter on me (to around knee length). This Primark dress feels lovely on and hugs my curves (with a good amount of stretch over the chest!) - ideal for showing off your figure without showing much flesh at all!

I decided to jazz up my outfit with a pair of patterned tights. I chose my eye-catching, black Wolford'dolly dots' tights to pick up the circular stud detailing on my harness. The quality of these tights is excellent and they seem much less prone to laddering than my usual tights!

The heel-boots are again a bargain from Primark and I thought that the faux suede and black strapping detailing with gold studs mirrored the harness detailing perfectly.

I finished the look off with gold earrings, a slick of bright red lipstick, cat-wing eye make-up and, of course, some matching lingerie! The underwear that I wore with this outfit was the Freya 'Spotlight' Deco, which I bought from Figleaves when they had a 15% off code (naughty me!) The claret red tone and black polka dots match the theme of my outfit perfectly. With its trademark seamless finish and cleavage-flattering moulded cups, the 'Spotlight' was extremely practical underneath a bodycon dress too!

In true lingerie blog style, my review would not be complete without briefly touching upon the look and fit of this new Freya Deco..

The 'Spotlight' bra delivers a fashionable twist on Freya's best-selling 'Deco' design. The unusual claret base colour adds a touch of sophistication, keeping the polka dot pattern from looking too 'cutesy'. I love that Freya have inverted the colour scheme on the straps, trim and central bow (burgandy polka dots on a black base) and I am also glad that the pattern and trim continue down the bra wings - it really pulls the design together!

Whilst this bra, for the most part, delivers the same fit and support of a regular Deco bra, the 'Spotlight' did not feel exactly the same when worn. Although the fit is only fractionally different, the top of the cups of the 'Spotlight' appear to curve inwards more than the regular Deco or Deco 'Honey'. I would attribute this 'curving inwards' to the presence of a thicker (and stiffer) elastic trim, which is present on the inside and outside of the 'Spotlight'.

(Comparison of the outer trim of the 'Spotlight' compared to no trim on the regular nude Deco)

(The inner trim of the 'Spotlight' is significantly thicker/wider than the interior trim of my regular nude Deco)

For those that experience slight 'gapping' at the top of the cups on the regular Deco, the 'Spotlight' could help to reduce this. Conversely, this design alteration may result in a slight 'cutting in' on those that are quite full-on-top in shape (this may not warrant having to size up in the cups, however).

All in all, I found that my usual 28FF was a good fit in the 'Spotlight' and like all of my Freya Deco bras, the 'Spotlight' feels comfortable and supportive when worn. I am looking forward to adding more Deco bras to my collection in future. Take a look at these beauties that are coming out this S/S14 and A/W14!
